Ahazaza Students Discover What’s Really in Their Water
Stewards of Eden partnered with Ahazaza Independent School for a powerful experiment: What does unboiled water look like under a microscope and what changes when it’s boiled?
The Experiment
Students collected water from the school taps, prepared wet mounts, and observed it at different magnifications. They compared:
Unboiled water
Boiled water (1 minute)
What They Saw
Unboiled samples contained many moving particles, thread-like and round structures that could be tiny microorganisms.
In boiled water, most of them were gone or inactive.
One student said:
“I didn’t know water could be alive. Now I understand why we must boil it.”
Why It Matters
A simple visual experience created real behavior change. Students wrote messages to their parents asking them to boil drinking water every day.
This activity reflects the spirit of the GLOBE Program, where students collect and analyze real environmental data to protect their communities.
Next Step
We plan to extend this water awareness experiment to more schools. If you’d like to support more microscopes and science materials, get in touch!
Science + Awareness = Healthier Communities
